Tips for Non Cash Donations

If you have donated clothing, etc. to organizations such as the  Salvation Army  or Goodwill, you will have received a receipt that describes what you have donated.  They are not permitted to put a value on it - that is your responsibility.  Before you give it to your WOB tax preparer you need to determine the “Thrift Shop Value”.  You can find guidelines at many of the organizations’ websites.  Remember, if the receipt goes to the tax preparer with no value on it, then your deduction is zero!
